SHOCKING ANNOUNCEMENT!

Guest blogger Tom Anderson back today to bring you a shocking announcement. (That's precisely how I came up with the title "SHOCKING ANNOUNCEMENT.") After ten years of coming to you from the same location, my little blog troupe is vacating the premises. We're movin' on up to the east side... to a deluxe apartment in the sky!

What exactly do I mean by that?
Effective immediately, as in right now,
Shady Dell Music & Memories is being
retired. From now on the old blog will
spend its days sitting in front of the
TV in boxer shorts watching reruns
of Barnaby Jones. Today I am
launching a new blog called

Shady's Place!

Rest assured that my new site will continue
to offer a wide variety of music that brings
back happy memories of your youth plus
the latest on pork belly futures in Iowa.

In addition to a new blog name and location,
there is one other major change to report.
After 10 years of playing the role of the
lovable, wisecracking pipe-mouth
Shady Del Knight...

Clive Geoffrey Pomeroy as "Shady Del Knight"

...English character actor Clive Pomeroy is
stepping down. Taking over the reins as
permanent blog host will be this man...

William Frawley hired as new blog host

William Frawley... another veteran actor
I am sure many of you know. As you might
recall, Frawley played the Ricardos' grumpy
landlord Fred Mertz on the wildly popular 50s
TV series I Love Lucy. In 1960 Frawley joined
the cast of My Three Sons in the role of "Bub."

after 10 years of Shady service

I wish to thank Clive Pomeroy for
his brilliant portrayal of "Shady"
over the last decade...

and I ask that you make his replacement,
William Frawley, feel right at home as he assumes
a brand new role as your host at Shady's Place.
As an added wrinkle, Frawley will frequently
appear in drag on the new blog,
disguised as this woman...

Mrs. Patmore - downstairs at Downton
and rockin' her maid uniform!

Downton Abbey's Mrs. Patmore.
I know it all seems a bit confusing
at the moment, but I guarantee
you'll catch on as we go along.

So, what are you waiting for?

Follow the fun where it leads...

It's My 10 Year Blog Anniversary and, to Mark the Occasion, I'm Goin' Back!

Can you spare 5 minutes

for 10 years?

Today marks the

10 year anniversary of

Shady Dell

Music & Memories!

To tell the truth, I never expected or intended
to keep blogging this long. According to my
original plan, 2010 was to be my last year of
presenting fresh content. From that point on,
SDM&M was meant to consist of nothing but
reruns. Little did I know that the best was yet
to come. The years since 2010 have been the
most exciting of all... a journey filled with
surprises, mysteries solved and unsolved,
drama, pathos, fun and great friendships.

To celebrate my 10 years as host of SDMM,
I now present another poor man's music video.
If you have the time, I encourage you to take
the full 4:15 ride and experience it in real time.
I found a magnificent song that best expresses
what I am feeling after ten years of blogging.
The words of the song will help you to
understand why I started SDMM a
decade ago and the driving force
that has kept me going
all these years.

Click the video to start the song
playing, then perform a continuous
smooth scroll down the page.

Keep pace with the song by viewing the
pictures at a rate of approx. 2 seconds each.
Do not stop to examine an individual
picture or you will fall behind.

Behold ten years of memories, ten years of the
people, places and events that made Shady Dell
Music & Memories something special for me
and, I hope, for you as well. Listen now to
this evocative song composed by Gerry
Goffin and Carole King as the late,
great English singer and songwriter
Jackie Trent performs "Goin' Back."

I think I'm goin' back

To the things I learned so well

in my youth

COURTESY BLAKE STOUGH

I think I'm returning to

Those days when I was young enough

to know the truth

Now there are no games

To only pass the time

No more coloring books

No Christmas bells to chime

But thinking young

and growing older

is no sin

And I can play

the game

of life to win

I can recall a time

And now I think I've got

A lot more

Now there's more to do

Than watch my sailboat glide

And every day can be

my magic carpet ride

And I can play hide and seek

with my fears

And live my days

instead of counting

As I always say, it starts with a great song,
and "Goin' Back" is a great song. In closing,
I offer you another gripping performance
of "Goin' Back," this one by Phil Collins.

Whether you have been following me for ten years
or ten days, I thank you very much, dear friend,
for coming with me on this journey. I am very
grateful for your friendship and support.

Now that I have reached the 10 year mark,
I have come to a decision. In my next post
I will be making an important announcement
re: the future of Shady Dell Music & Memories.
