Well whad'ya know...

Today, July 20, 2017...

Shady Dell

Music & Memories

is celebrating its

9 year anniversary!

Did I hear you correctly, Mr. Knight?

This brainchild of yours is 9 years old?

That's 56 in dog years!   That's the

length of 27 Hollywood marriages

laid end to end!

What? You don't know who I am?
You don't recognize this "crazy lady"
who just popped in uninvited
and unannounced?

For your information, I am
Dr. Mindy Lahiri, OB/GYN.
If I were a few inches taller
you could add BBW to my
credentials. Let's put it this
way. I'm not just plus size.
I'm A++ size, get it?

I’m like... very smart and successful...
and I’m hot... but don’t even know it...
which makes me even hotter.

I'm a doctor, not a DJ, but, for what
it's worth, and if you're taking requests,
I think all songs should be three minutes
long and Nicki Minaj raps in the middle.

Unbeknownst to you, Mr. K, I have been
secretly stalking creeping following you
for years. I have come to the conclusion
that Shady Dell Music & Memories is an
intoxicating and highly addictive blend
of music, memories, mischief,
madness and mayhem.

Furthermore, my impression of you
personally is that you, sir, are one
sick, twisted puppy. I happen to like
that quality in a man. It's the first box
I check when trolling the singles bars.

A few years ago, as you might recall,
the sassy girl group Subtle Sexuality
had a hit with "Male Prima Donna."
You're so vain, you probably think
this song is about you. Roll tape!

"Male Prima Donna" - Subtle Sexuality
(feat. 'Nard Dog) introducing Mr. Understood
(2009, from NBC TV Series The Office)

Well, I suppose congratulations are
in order, so congrats on reaching this
impressive milestone and keep up the
good work, or play as the case may be.

As one of your biggest fans I'll
be praying for another 9 years.
Make that 99. I like to dream big.

Dear reader, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your friendship and continued support of Shady Dell Music & Memories and invite you to watch one of the funniest TV shows ever -

the Mindy project

... returning this fall for a sixth
and final season on Hulu!

I think you meant to say

theee funniest show!

I'll be back soon with

my first post of year 10.

Have a Shady day!

Congratulations on reaching the nine year mark of your blogging journey! I can hardly believe it— seems like only yesterday you came to me and announced you were starting a blog. You have presented a lot of music and memories in nine years— and a lot has happened to the Dell and its people.

I am happy to see yet another of our favorite TV shows in your blog spotlight— in fact two of them— The Mindy Project and The Office— and if you count Chris Griffin from Family Guy— it makes three of our favorite shows! I can’t wait for the start of the new season of The Mindy Project. Mindy is one of the funniest people on television— and you did a great job of putting funny words into her mouth in this post. The lines you wrote for her are right in character. I had forgotten about that episode of The Office with Male Prima Donna— and it was fun to watch the video after all these years.

Congratulations again and happy nine years to SDM&M. I am looking forward to year ten— and many more to follow!

    1. Hi, Kathryn!

Thank you very much for the anniversary greetings!

Yessum, it is hard to believe I've been blogging for 9 years. Maybe it would be fun to do some research and determine the top SDMM related story year by year and make a post out of it. You're right. A lot has happened in nearly a decade including the Dell's reconstruction and sale, the destruction of the dance hall, barn and garage, and the recent death of our dear friend Margaret Schneider "The Oldest Living Dell Rat."

I'm glad you got a kick out of my latest parody, this one saluting the great comedic actress and writer Mindy Kaling who played Kelly Kapoor on The Office and for the last few years has been starring as Dr. Mindy Lahiri in her own series The Mindy Project, a show that gets better season after season.

I wish I could take credit for writing all of Mindy's lines in this post, but I did not. Several of them are direct quotes from her show including the following:

"I’m like... very smart and successful...
and I’m hot... but don’t even know it...
      which makes me even hotter."

"all songs should be three minutes
long and Nicki Minaj raps in the middle."

And of course, Mindy's trademark exclamation on the show "exsqueeze me."

I always loved that slickly produced music video "Male Prima Donna." The iTunes ranking survey has the following details: At its peak, the song by Subtle Sexuality, "Male Prima Donna" became the Number 1 music video, and the Number 4 song.

Thank you again for your patience and support all these years, dear Kathryn, and stay tuned for year #10 starting (wait for it).... NOW!

  2. Dearest Shady, I am so proud to still be reading and sampling music from your wonderful posts of the history of music from basically all over the world! Nine years is a good while to bring forth all of the good music you enjoyed from your experiences at the Shady Dell, and, to branch out among the newer genres of the art! You have come from your shy and awkward beginnings as an insecure teen, then, garbed in your "H.I.S. pants and Baracuta jacket", "giddy with anticipation and fear of the unknown" (in your words), to us! I don't even remember now when I first joined your blog, but, I feel like a lot of us have grown up with you...and, THAT'S a great feeling!

I know there is so much more up your sleeve, Mr. Knight, and I hope to be there to enjoy the party! "John Ettline had a million stories to tell-all of them interesting." Little did Mr. Ettline know that a Mr. Knight would come along to honor and continue the Dell's legacy!

By the way, I enjoyed the video "Male Prima Donna" and Dr. Mindy is so cute!

Congratulations on 9 years, dear friend, and, to Mrs Shady! Have a wonderful weekend! ♫

    1. Hi, Suzanne!

I am delighted to see you, dear friend. Thank you very much for coming over and for making my day with your lovely remarks!

Yessum, you are one of my oldest and dearest friends, not only in blogging, but a genuine real life friend, and I appreciate you sticking with me all these years. We have both been through a lot of changes over the years and our friendship continues to reap its rewards.

You explained the evolution of SDMM very nicely, Suzanne. When I first started the blog, I had "tunnel vision." I intended to share only the music and memories that are related directly to the Shady Dell. That's a great way to run out of fresh material in a hurry and I nearly did. Two years into blogging, in the summer of 2010, I made plans for a grand finale post at the end of the year in which I would thank readers for their support, say "goodbye" and post only reruns from that point on. Fate intervened. My list of followers started growing rapidly and I soon realized I had a mandate to continue on. Since I had already presented nearly every "Dell song" I could think of, I decided to branch out and post my favorite songs, even those that were to my knowledge never played at the Dell. Eventually my platter parties expanded to include newly discovered oldies, newly discovered modern artists and songs, music by international artists, tributes to my favorite actors and actresses and parodies of my favorite TV series and movies. I am happy to inform you that I have plenty of new material in the can, enough to last many more years. The love and encouragement of true blue friends like you inspires me to keep going.

I'm pleased to know you got a kick out of Mindy's music video "Male Prima Donna" which ran on an episode of her previous series The Office a few years ago. If you never watched that show I highly recommend it. Of course I also highly recommend Mindy's latest series The Mindy Project, one of the top comedies on television.

I am very grateful for your friendship and support, Suzanne. Thank you again for coming over and spreading cheer. I wish you and Scootie a safe and happy Texas weekend!

  3. Congratulations on nine years! Mindy's bit was funny. She does know how to do cute.

    1. Hi, Alex!

Thank you very much for attending my 9th blogiversary bash hosted by Dr. Mindy Lahiri. I'm glad you enjoyed her bit. If you aren't already watching The Mindy Project, I highly recommend it as well as Mindy's old NBC series The Office. Mindy Kaling has a brilliant comedy mind!

Thanks again for the positive vibes, good buddy Alex, and enjoy the rest of your week!

  4. Congratulations, Shady, on your 9th Blogoversary!! I know I'm late to the SDMM party, but I've certainly enjoyed things since I arrived. :)

I celebrated a "big" one awhile back:

Here's to you reaching 10 and many years beyond!!

    1. Hi, Kelly!

Thank you ever so much for attending my 9 year blog birthday bash. I am very happy to see you, dear friend!

A few weeks ago when you and I were just starting to follow each other, I looked in the right column of your blog and noticed that your site got started in 2008 a month before mine. I had no idea until now that you had another blog in the years prior that. Happy 12+ years of blogging to you, Kelly!

I can honestly say that I am very excited and very thankful to have someone like you in my circle as I begin year 10. I like the fact that you have an even temperament and that you post on a variety of interesting and uplifting topics. I happen to love goats, so any time you want to post pictures of yours I'd love to have a look at them. :) When I was first dating the future Mrs. Shady #1, there was a goat on the property next to her house. I loved to walk over to the fence, talk to that goat and scratch its neck and back. Is it any wonder I am attracted to petting zoos and spend more time in them than kids do? :)

Thank you again for your kind words today, Kelly. I hope to keep you entertained throughout the coming year and beyond and I am very thankful to have you in my circle of friends!

  5. Happy anniversary and congratulations! I can't wait to read in year 10.

I'll have to check out the Mindy Project. This made me really laugh.

Have a great Friday, dear friend!

    1. Hi, Jessica Marie!

Thank you very much for swinging by to help me salivate (correct usage) my 9th blogiversary. I am happy to see you, dear friend!

I encourage you to binge watch all three series represented here: Family Guy, The Office and The Mindy Project. Mindy's latest, TMP, is a very funny TV series that starts out great and only gets better as the seasons pass. If you enjoy hip, snappy lines of dialogue like the ones I quoted here from the program, then TMP is for you.

Thanks again for joining the fun, dear friend JM, and have a super weekend!

  6. Happy Anniversary Tom! Wow, 9 years! That's a lot of years. I loved your line that it's "27 Hollywood marriages..." That's a good one!

I enjoyed the Male Prima Donna video so much. They did great! Very entertaining and the song is fun.

I've never seen the Mindy Project but you have me curious. And one other thing that I'm curious about: you aren't seriously calling this girl Plus Size, are you? If so, we need to talk!

Enjoy celebrating your blog anniversary. 9 years is a great accomplishment...
    Happy Weekend,

    Michele at Angels Bark

    1. Hi, Michele!

Thank you very much for dropping in for my 9 year blog anniversary, dear friend. I am so glad to have you over on this spacial occasion!

I'm pleased to know you enjoyed Mindy's zingers, a few of them ripped directly from the series and a few created for this parody post.

I love that music video created by the staff of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, a great batch of comedic actors and actresses. B. J. Novak (rapper "Mr. Understood in the video) also shows up in four episodes of the Mindy Project.

Yessum, if you enjoy hip, topical humor, then you should check out The Mindy Project. Mrs. Shady and I have seen every episode so far and are eagerly awaiting the start of the final season this fall.

Mindy uses lots of self-deprecating humor on her series. She and other characters on the show make frequent references to her body type. If you look at the Google Image Gallery of "plus size models" you will see that "plus size" is what most people would call normal size. "Normal" in the fashion modeling world is much too wafer thin, in my opinion.

Thank you again for your friendship and support, dear Michele, and please stick around for lots more fun coming up in year ten!

  7. Hi Shady!

Wow where did the years go? Nine years is quite an accomplishment. You have provided us, your readers, with entertainment, knowledge and fun! You somehow managed to keep your posts fresh, exciting and, of course, there's that Shady humor!!! We can't forget all of the thoughtful tributes/ memorials you've added throughout the years. Your kind heart and uplifting spirit is present in every post!

Congratulations dear Shady/Tom on this huge achievement! Keep 'em coming!

    Toni Deroche

    1. Hi, Toni!

I am thrilled to see you back here at SDMM, your old home away from home, and I especially thank you for these very kind words as I reflect back on my nine years of blogging.

To say a lot has happened in the last nine years would be a profound understatement. You have been with me through many changes, beginning with the years that your family proudly owned the Dell and you did a tremendous job of helping me launch SDMM with your picture taking and stories. Then came the Dell house renovation, the sale of the Dell, the demolition of the dance hall, barn and garage. There were also two amazing story lines that surfaced that neither one of us could have anticipated - Phil Spangler's accounts of his family's ownership of the Dell during the Great Depression, and Kathleen Mae Schneider who came forward to share stories of her mother Margaret's life at the Dell in the WWI years and the Roaring Twenties. What a wealth of new information those two people contributed to SDMM! Then came the death of Margaret Schneider - "The Oldest Living Dell Rat" - another very sad day in Shady Dell history.

Your kind words move me, Toni. It make me happy to inform, entertain and amuse people like you. I hope you will stick around as I play my way through year ten, a year that will culminate in a major surprise. :)

Thanks again for your friendship and support all these many years, Toni. Have a great weekend and please come back and see me real soon!

  8. Congratulations Tom!! I can't believe it's 9 years already! I think your blog is one of the older in the blogosphere, you keep writing fresh posts as if you started a couple of months ago, that's great. This post really made me laugh especially "the lenght of 27 Hollywood marriages" ... too funny 😂

    1. Hi, Katia!

How are you, my dear friend in Italy?

My 9th anniversary celebration would not be complete w/o having you here, because you have been following me longer than anyone else who is still regularly commenting on my posts. I am very grateful to have your friendship and support over the years, dear Rapunzel! :)

Your words warm my heart, Katia. I'm glad you appreciate my determination to keep my posts fresh. It helps that I have expanded the scope of the blog to include a wider variety of music along with tributes and parodies of my favorite movies and TV series. I am pleased to know that Mindy's zingers made you laugh, especially one of the punchlines I wrote for her.

Thank you again for being such a great friend over the years, dear Katia. Give your dear little son a big hug for me, enjoy the rest of your weekend, and stay tuned for year #10 here on SDMM!

  9. Happy Anniversary to a wonderful blogger friend. I know I feel enriched being able to comment on your blog and learning more about music and the Dell....and the wonderful Margaret. Here's to you! I wanted to add the Flinstone Anniversary song but don't know how to from my I pad

    1. Hi, Birgit!

Thank you very much for being on hand for my 9 year blog anniversary celebration. You are a great friend, BB, and I am very grateful to have you in my circle as I begin a 10th year bringing you music & memories, madness & mayhem.

Yessum, the loss of sweet Margaret is still affecting me day by day. She meant a great deal to me and to a lot of other people, and I know that includes you as well. Kathleen Mae emailed me to let me know she received the card you made in memory of Margaret. Thank you again for your kindness!

I wish you a happy weekend, dear friend BB, and invite you back here next week when I will present the first post of year ten. Thanks again and take care!

  10. Happy ninth anniversary, friend Shady ... U r awesome ... and I will continue to follow u for sure as I will continue to follow my (transgender) daughter/ son/ it ... as it's all fun and games until someone loses his wiener ... just saying ... Love, cat.

    1. Hi cat!

Thank you ever so much for joining the fun as I salivate 9 years of blogging.

I can honestly report that I have learned a lot from friends like you, cat. Life itself is an art form, and we all have our own unique way of expressing ourselves. You are a fascinating person and I enjoy your blog, your visits to mine, and our interaction.

Thank you again for pledging to follow me into my 10th year and the great beyond, dear friend cat. Have a wonderful weekend. I hope to see you again soon!

  11. Congrats dear Shady! I haven't been a follower for all nine years but I certainly have enjoyed the years I've been stopping by! I'm not the brightest bulb in the music world but I've learned a lot in the past years on this blog and also met some remarkable folks who inspire and amaze! I hope you have many, many more blog years ahead!

    1. Hi, YaYa!

Welcome welcome welcome, my dear old friend! I am very happy to see you this evening.

Thank you very much for the sweet words of support, YaYa. You have been following SDMM nearly half the total time it has existed, and it gives me great pleasure to entertain, amuse and inform loyal friends like you throughout the year.

Stay tuned now for lots more music and memories coming up in year ten here on Shady Dell Music & Memories - The Little Blog That Could. :)

Thanks again for stopping by and have a wonderful week, dear friend YaYa!

  12. Tom,

WOW, congrats on 9 years of blogging! That's very impressive indeed. Although I haven't see the Mindy Project TV series, I enjoyed this another fun edition on SDMM. Here's to your upcoming 10th year in Blogosphere, my friend! :D

    1. Hi, Cathy!

Thank you very much for being here as I celebrate 9 completed years of blogging and begin my 10th year.

In the last couple of years you have recommended some great TV series to me. If you like a big city setting and an updated version of Friends that revolves around the wacky staff at a medical center, then I think you'll enjoy The Mindy Project.

I deeply appreciate your ongoing friendship and support, Cathy. Thank you again for coming by and spreading cheer. Enjoy your birthday celebration with DH and I'll see you soon!

  13. Yay for those nine successful years and here's to the next nine. But "sick, twisted puppy?" I'm not sure about that.

    1. Hi, Cheryl!

Hoe are you, dear friend? Thank you very much for joining me on this special occasion as I mark nine years of blogging here at SDMM.

Thank you very much for defending me against the rather harsh words uttered by Doctor L in this post. :) I am very happy to have you as a new friend this year, Cheryl-Lee, and I invite you to stick with me as I proceed through year ten.

Thank you again for your comment and have a wonderful week!

  14. Yay for nine years! That's impressive. Nine years of excellent posts! Here's to another nine!

    1. Hi, Sherry!

Welcome back, dear friend, and thank you for offering well wishes for another nine years of blogging. I hope you'll still be with me nine years from now. In the meantime, in between time, I will do my best to entertain you.

Thanks again for the anniversary greetings, dear friend Sherry, and enjoy the rest of your week!

  15. Congratulations on 9 years! I know I have enjoyed my visits.

    1. Thanks, Mike. I appreciate your visits, good buddy!

You talkin' to me?
