Shawn and Gus Are Psyched Again!

I'm Shawn Spencer, renowned psychic sleuth,
male pin-up model and boy toy to the stars.

This is my distinguished colleague,
Algonquin J. Kingfish, mustache wax
taste tester and part time crash dummy.

Cut the crap, Shawn!
You're making stuff up again, same as you did the other times we guest hosted here on Shady Dell M&M.

Don't get mad, Gus. Get glad. Just be thankful that Shady invited us back. Come to think of it, we still didn't get paid for those other gigs.

We're here today to announce
yet another special event
coming up on S-D-M-M.

It's another exciting edition
of Shady's exclusive rave series.

Don't be a spoiler, Gus. Utter not
one more word because I will now use
my amazing psychic abilities to
discern who or whom is hosting
this weeks' dance-a-thon.

Stand by! I'm picking up the
good vibrations. Brian Wilson!
No, hold on. A strange force is
sweeping over me. The spirits
are near. I'm getting a vision.
I see a red door and I want it
painted black. NO! I see a black
door and I want it pained red.
I've got it! This week's rave
will be hosted by the artist
formerly known as Mick Jagger!

First of all Mick Jagger
is still known as Mick
Jagger. Second, you're
wrong. Mick Jagger
is not the host of
this week's rave.

It's defense lawyer Annalise Keating.

Annalise and her minions are coming
to SDMM and hosting a R&B party
you'll remember forever.

That's right! That's what I
just said: Murder She Wrote!

Wrong again, Shawn. Annalise
Keating's TV series is called
How To
Get Away With Murder.
Watch this fun parody
of the show:

Hold on, Gus.
I'm having another vision!

I see Annalise's rave coming
on a special day and time...

That gives readers a choice.
They can either stay up really
really really late the night before
to attend the rave, or get up really
really really early in the morning.
How convenient!

Now you got it right, Shawn, but
it remains an unsolved mystery why
Shady keeps inviting us back here.

And so this is Shawn Spencer
 on behalf of my partner,
I.M. Squiffed, bidding
you farewell for now.
I leave you with the
words of wisdom spoken
by the winner of this year's
Santa Barbara sausage eating contest.
"A rind is a terrible thing to waste."

  1. A rind is a terrible thing to waste, huh? — lol! You are too much! Where do you come up with this stuff?

Hooray— I am excited to see two more of our favorite shows in the same post— Psych and How To Get Away With Murder. I can’t wait for the Keating gang to host one of your raves this weekend. I have no doubt the music will be as Shawn and Gus claim— killer. I’m curious— what made you decide to schedule this week’s rave for 5 am Sunday instead of midnight on a Friday like before?

As always you are spot on with your hilarious Psych characterizations and dialogue. Funny post— good going!

    1. Hi, Kathryn!

Thanks for being the early bird. I'm happy to know that you are "Psyched" about this weekend's rave hosted by Annalise Keating and her brat pack, the stars of the hit TV series How To Get Away With Murder. As you and I have discussed, the show is better than ever this season.

Yessum, it is always fun to welcome Shawn and Gus back to SDMM. They make great co-hosts and I miss their TV series as much as I miss Monk's.

The music contained in this weekend's rave will be all killer - no filler. I guarantee it or double your money back!

Why did I switch the start time from midnight Friday to 5 am Sunday? Truth be told, when I started these raves, I had a couple of night owl friends, and I published late at night for their benefit. Those people are no longer with us and I didn't see the point of you and I staying up till all hours of the night to listen and comment if nobody else was. Therefore, I will publish at my usual time, 2 am Pacific, 5 am Eastern, and my current crop of friends can come by after church Sunday or whenever they care to during the rave's six day run. As Kelly Mac Namara reminded us in Beyond The Valley of the Dolls:

"When does ANY party start? When you get there!"

Thank you again for visiting early and for your comment, Kathryn!

  2. Always glad to see these two hosting.
In Shawn's defense, he was close. Sort of.
Don't think I'll be the first one here on Sunday though...

    1. Hi, Alex!

Thanks for reporting in, good buddy! I predicted that you would be psyched to see Shawn and Gus back on SDMM. I'm sure you remember their appearance on Rock Jeopardy hosted by Alex J. Cavanaugh Trebek. :)

Thanks again for your visit and comment, good buddy. Annalise's rave runs six days and I look forward to your next visit. Until then have a great week!

  3. As YaYa always says at a party, "Well, all the important people are here!" Hope to be one of those on Sunday...(probably not at 5am but I'll be there!)

    1. Hi, YaYa!

How are you today, dear friend? Thanks so much for popping in for the teaser announcing my next rave party, this one hosted by the cast of the hit TV series How To Get Away With Murder. It will help if you are already watching the series but, if you aren't, then you will meet the main characters and perhaps get the urge to follow the series. Murder will start its 4th season on ABC this fall. As for the music, I guarantee that this is my best rave lineup to date (or double your money back). I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks again, dear friend YaYa. Have a super week and I'll be seeing you again soon!

    2. Holy moly Shady, I forgot that I'll be in Chicago this weekend and might not make the party until Monday. Hope that's OK. Going to see Mom and sis and Jordan is taking care of Chubbs at the Pines for us. Hope your rest of the week and weekend are great!

    3. That's AOK, dear YaYa. The rave post runs a total of 6 days so you've got plenty of time to check it out. Thank you very much for caring enough to let me know about your scheduling conflict. I appreciate it, dear friend!

I wish you a safe trip to Chicago and hope you find your mother and sister in good health. Jord should enjoy having a dog by his side again.

      God bless!

  4. Soooo, Shawn and Kingfish! I tried to watch Psyche a couple of times a few years ago, and, just couldn't get into it. But, I thought I would try to watch again, as it comes on a station I regularly watch. We'll see. I do enjoy their hosting abilities on your blog though. I believe I have seen them here before!

"To Get Away With Murder" looks like it could be a fun show, the parody was really good.

Since I crash out earlier these days on Saturday nites, I will try to tune in on Sunday morning, and pick up the pieces of the Rave. I know it will still be an ongoing and excitable event.

This is cool, Shady. And, I always pick up a phrase from your sidebar while visiting your posts, even tho I've already read it, and, I've never mentioned it. Today's quote is, Shady: "As we drove past York Hospital on South George and headed toward Violet Hill, what began as giddy anticipation was turning into apprehension." Wow! So could take that one statement and write a pretty good tale around it. "Violet Hill"-sounds like a place or mystery mountain! I know what came next, but, that's another time!

I'm heading for the kitchen to make some cabbage soup now. But I had to check on you before I do. Then, it's off to pick up Scootie in a couple of hours. I'm glad I came by, and I will definitely get a new outfit for the Annalise Rave. Take care, and have a wonderful week, Shady! ♫

    1. Hi, Suzanne!

Welcome welcome welcome, dear friend. I'm happy to see you!

Thanks for joining the fun as my old buddies Shawn and Gus tease you about this weekend's big event, Shady's next rave party, this one hosted by Annalise K and her minions, the spoiled brat packers that do her bidding every week on How To Get Away With Murder. I highly recommend their series along with Psych.

I am honored that you quoted my sidebar cover story, Suzanne. That is so nice of you. I also like the following line I came up with:

"I found my thrill on Violet Hill." :)

Yessum, the Dell stood there on a hillside, proud as you please, her music and charms luring rats like the Pied Piper of Hamelin. I would love to be able to travel back in time and spend just a few minutes in the Magic Kingdom. Seeing as how that is not likely to happen, SDMM, the online version of the Dell, will have to suffice.

I'm also honored that you want to get all gussied up for the party, to the extent that you plan to run out and buy a new outfit. I can't wait to see it! (Shady will be wearing his birthday suit :)

Yummy! I command you to ship me a 50 gallon drum of your cabbage soup! :) No kidding, I really do appreciate good soup and I'll bet yours is delicious. I can smell it from the other side of the Gulf. :)

Have fun with Scootie, dear friend Suzanne. Have a wonderful week and I'll see you at Annalise's Rave!

  5. Such a fun post, friend Shady !!! ... smiles ... ya, me will b dere ... 2300hrs ... 0500hrs ... no matter. uhm what was your address again ? anyway ... smiles ... Love, cat.

    1. Hi hi hi, cat!

How R U, dear feline friend? :) Thanks for coming over for some giggles today as the boys from Psych tease us about the brats from Annalise's law school class on How To Get Away With Murder.

I'm happy to know that you will be here for the main event, the rave party which begins promptly at 5 am this Sunday. Please don't let the -30 C temperatures in your region stop you from leaving home and trudging through ice and snow to get to this party. :) The address? As I revealed in my very first post back in 2008:

"Welcome to the grand reopening of York, Pennsylvania's legendary Shady Dell, now at its new location, corner of Blogspot & Cyberspace! Admission is free, but visitors are asked to bring along three things: a youthful spirit, a respectful attitude and a sense of humor."

(I should have added that a vivid imagination is also required. :)

Thank you again for stopping by, dear friend cat. Enjoy the rest of your week and I will see you at the rave!

    2. Imagination is a beautiful thing ... smiles ... Love, cat.

    3. Hi again, cat!

Yessum, a mind is a terrible thing... :) but a well developed imagination comes in handy when you visit SDMM. :)

Smiles right back at you, dear cat!

  6. Tom,

I always enjoy these sorts of posts. We haven't watched this show, but I bet you do, right? Do you recommend it? You know I don't know Spencer or Kingfish, except through you on SDMM. I like how you work the dialogue, though. You're so good at doing this sorta thing. It's an ability I wish I could pull. The parody of How To Get Away With Murder was good and the gal in the vid resembles Viola Davis a lot. Thanks for such a fun post and keeping my spirits uplifted. :) You're a real good friend!

    1. Hi, Cathy!

Thank you very much for making time for a visit. Your presence here today means a lot to me knowing that you've got so much going on behind the scenes.

I'm glad you enjoy the way I write dialogue for fictional TV characters. Seems if I know them well enough the words flow very easily.

There are two series represented here, Psych and How To Get Away With Murder, and I am not sure which one you are asking about, but the answer is that Mrs. S and I watch both shows and highly recommend them. As you recall, you recommended the dark lawyer drama Damages to me and I can tell you that How To Get Away With Murder is also a dark legal drama, but it is also a mystery laced with an abundance of humor. While I am at it, I will also give an enthusiastic thumbs-up to season 2 of Fargo. It is awesome, and if you liked From Dusk Till Dawn, you should like both seasons of Fargo, now available on Hulu. In addition, if you never watched Grimm, Mrs. S and I give it two very enthusiastic thumbs up. At times it will remind you of From Dusk Till Dawn. The entire Grimm series is now streaming on Hulu.

Thank you again for coming, dear friend Cathy. If you need your spirits lifted then Shady's your man and SDMM's the place to be. :) Take good care of yourself. I will be connecting with you again soon!

    2. Tom,

I was asking about "How To Get Away With Murder" but thank you for the recommendations for this show as well as Psych. I most certainly will look for them on Netflix.

We saw the promo Fargo advertising recently and wanted to take a peek at it. It looked like something that we might enjoy and with your recommendation on the show the we'll for sure check it out.

I've watched most of the Grimm season, except for the last two years. I hope to pick this up from the beginning with DH. While he was out of work, he took a shine to some of the weird sci-fi series that I didn't think he'd like. Boy, was I surprised!

We just finished season three of From Dusk Till Dawn. They concluded as if that's the end but I found online that a mini series is expected to release in September. Is this what you discovered to? I hope they haven't ended the program altogether because we like it.

I appreciate your support and encouragement. I know where to come when I'm feeling blue and that's to the virtual Shady Dell hosted by my good friend!

Have an awesome day and God bless!

    3. Hi again, dear Cathy!

There are two seasons of Fargo "in the can" and season 3 is set to begin airing less than a month from now. The quality of each episode is consistently excellent. The bad guys and their evil deeds are just as shocking as those in From Dusk Till Dawn, if not more so. I really think you will like it. I am also happy to know that DH is giving weird sci-fi shows a chance. I think both of you will enjoy Grimm. The final season of Grimm was the best of all because it had the most amazing special FX and mixed lots of humor in with the horror. I always appreciate that combination. Mrs. Shady won't watch From Dusk Till Dawn with me and that presents a problem because she likes to hog the TV set and won't give me the remote. :) I hope to catch (binge watch) season 3 while she is away on two upcoming trips.

Thank you again for coming to chat, dear friend Cathy. I'm thinking about you and your family... and I care.

    4. Tom,

We'd like to watch the new Fargo series but we don't have Hulu. Hopefully, it'll make it's way to Netflix or Amazon Prime. I hate to pay of another streaming service right now but we might consider it in the future. I like the Grimm series and I told DH that we need to start it from the beginning to see what he thinks. There are a couple of seasons I haven't seen so it'll be good to watch those fresh with DH. Ahh, I'm sorry Mrs. Shady won't watch FDTD with ya. Does she not like those kind of programs? It can be a bit weird but I enjoyed it. The mewsic is pretty awesome, too! Thanks for visiting and for your thoughts & prayers. I know you care. You're a good, good friend. I'll let you know how things go from time to time. Have a good weekend!

    5. Hi, Cathy!

Thank you very much for coming to visit again, dear friend.

Yessum, we watch Fargo on Hulu and I understand if you don't want to pay for another streaming service at this point in time. You might be able to watch both seasons of Fargo on FX On Demand. Season 2 is even more exciting than season 1. We just finished watching another action packed episode this evening. Kirsten Dunst has a major role in this season's story.

I do hope you can convince DH to give Grimm a try. Once you get to know the main characters you really get into the show, and the special FX just keep getting more spectacular. Spouses can be funny. Mrs. Shady loves Grimm and Fargo but got it in her head that she doesn't want to watch From Dusk Till Dawn, American Horror Story, Scream Queens and other series that I watch. I know she doesn't like vampire tales so maybe that's why she turns thumbs down on FDTD.

I do care, Cathy. I do. 2017 started out as a wonderful year for you guys, but that's how life goes. As Sinatra sang:

      You're riding high in April
      Shot down in May
But I know I'm gonna change that tune
When I'm back on top, back on top in June

Please hang in there, Cathy. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers and I wish you a safe and happy weekend.

  7. I really liked the earlier seasons of Psych and I watched the first season of How To Get Away With Murder. Liked them both but somehow lost track of them. Son bought me many of the seasons of Psych on DVD.
You always play around with the dialogue so nicely.
    Very clever.

    cheers, parsnip

    1. Hi, Gayle!

Thank you very much for swinging by for a visit, dear friend. It's so nice to see you! I appreciate the fact that you are keeping tabs on SDMM while you are on a blogging hiatus. I hope all is well with you, thehamish and the bad catties.

You are possibly the only reader I have (other than Mrs. Shady) to admit that you have watched both of these series. I am pleased to know you like both shows and that you got a giggle or two from the dialogue I created for the Psych sleuths, Shawn and Guster.

You are cordially invited to Annalise Keating's rave. It starts Sunday morning and runs six days (or until the non-alcoholic punch, gingerbread cookies and candy cigarettes run out).
So bring your dancing shoes and come have a ball.

Thanks again for joining the fun, dear friend Gayle. Please take good care of yourself and your wonderful animals. I hope to see you again soon!

  8. Hi Shady!

This was fun! I swear I'll make it to one of your raves yet! Let's see, 5 your time would mean last cup of coffee mine, right?
Wow, there are some fantastic voices in that parody.
    Hope your week is terrific!

    1. Hi, diedre!

How are you today, dear friend? Doing very well, I hope.

I didn't realize you haven't been to any of my raves yet. If it's because you've been grounded then I have a solution. Simply tie your sheets together, climb down from your bedroom window, steal away into the night (or morning as the case may be) and come kick up your heels at this weekend's bash. :) It's hosted by the cast of How To Get Away With Murder, but I'm thinking you probably don't watch the show since TV isn't your strong suit. The parody gives you an inkling of how the characters are related and their motivation. How...Murder started strong in season 1, faded for a while, and lately has been better, more fun and more gripping than ever. Mrs. S and I highly recommend it.

Annalise's Rave runs six full days, and therefore you are under no pressure to sneak out of the house on Sunday. :)

Thank you again for checking in with me today, dear friend diedre, and enjoy the rest of your week!

  9. How to get away with murder thing was great all in all I am glad I came here today

    1. Hi, Jo-Anne!

How are you, dear Aussie friend? Thanks for coming all this way to be teased by Shawn & Gus who invite you to be here this Sunday when Annalise Keating and her gang host my next rave. The music and dancing get underway at 5 am my local time which will be 8 pm your local time. I hope you will come join the fun.

Thanks again for poking me today, dear friend Jo-Anne, and enjoy the rest of your Thursday there in Australia!

  10. Hi, Shady!

What a fun post! I will have to catch this show on Sunday. :)

    1. Hi, Jessica Marie!

Yessum, you are cordially invited to Annalise's Rave this Sunday starting promptly at 5 am Eastern. I hope you enjoy the dance tuneage that the Murder crew will be playing.

      See you then, dear friend!

  11. I loved Psych! I think you nailed them perfectly :) Hope you're having a good week, Shady!

    1. Hi, Ashton!

Welcome back, dear friend. It's great to see you!

Thank you for the compliment. I find it easy to write dialogue for these particular characters, and that's why I brought them back for a third visit.
If you like drama and mystery laced with humor, I also highly recommend the Murder series and I invite you to check out Annalise Keating's rave starting this Sunday.

Thanks again for coming, dear friend Ashton!

  12. Fun post! Okay. So, if rind isn't something to waste, what should you do with it? Please enlighten me!

    Have a great week!

    1. Hi, Sherry!

Thanks for coming, dear friend! I'm happy to know you liked the post and I hope that means you will join the crowd and get down on it at this weekend's rave hosted by the gang at HTGAWM.

In a sausage eating contest, time is of the essence. Therefore, to answer your question, you would need to swallow the rind and hope for the best. :)

Thanks again for joining the fun, dear friend Sherry!

  13. You're so dang clever!!! Very cute post. I've never watched How to get away with Murder but my friends who watch it- love it.
I am excited to see what you have in store. will it feature the band The Killers out of Vegas? HAHA!

    1. Hi, Holliwood N. Vine!

How are you today, dear Texas friend? I'm happy to see you!

Thank you very much for the kind words, dearie. The exchanges between Shawn and Gus seem to roll off my fingertips easily and I enjoy bringing them back as co-hosts on SDMM.

Remember the Joe Pesci quote from the movie JFK?: "It's a mystery wrapped in a riddle inside an enigma!" That's what you get when you follow the hit TV legal drama How To Get Away With Murder. Plus, there is the added bonus of humor. The characters grow on you and, before you know it, you're hooked, soap opera style. Mrs. S and I never miss an episode.

The Killers band will not be playing at Annalise's Rave this weekend, but I guarantee that the lineup of dance tuneage is all killer - no filler (or double your $$$ back).

Thanks again for being such a great friend, Holli. I hope your life is on the upswing this week and that it will continue in that direction.

Take care of yourself and I'll see you again soon!

  14. This is fun and, as per norm, I'm a couple of days late but better late than never. The parody is funny even though I have not watched the show but know enough about it. I will not be up that late or that early but will check it out on Dunday to see what fun you have conjured up:)

    1. Hi, Birgit!

I'm happy you made it over for this one, dear friend. Thank you very much for coming by!

If you enjoy a good murder mystery (and who doesn't?), a mystery laced with sophisticated humor, then I think you'd enjoy watching the ABC series How To Get Away With Murder. In the meantime, the next best thing is to attend the rave hosted by the show's main characters. Dunday is good... but Sunday would be even better. :) The dance potty runs six full days so you have plenty of time to drop by.

Thanks again for being here and enjoy your Friday and your weekend, dear friend BB!

  15. Hey, I remember Psyched. Wondered what happened why it ended early. Good to see it here.

HTGAWM is getting everybody talking. Nice parody. :D

    1. Hi, Luxie!

Thank you very much for popping in, my phine Philippine phriend! :)

I wouldn't say that Psych ended early. The series enjoyed an 8 season run which is a lot longer than most. It is always sad to see a favorite series come to an end, but I think Psych was brought to a conclusion at the right time. I am hoping that HTGAWM enjoys an equally long run. The characters are interesting and the show is full of surprises.

Thanks again for coming, dear friend Lux. I hope to see you at the rave. (I instructed the burly bouncer to wave you right thru the door... no admission fee :)

      Have a great weekend!

You talkin' to me?
