  1. Applause applause— you featured yet another of our favorite shows! I am attracted to television shows and movies set in New England. Haven is very entertaining with all its mysterious plot twists and creepy Stephen King touches. I am so thankful your friend Cathy told you about it. The three main characters have loads of chemistry— and it is a show I wouldn’t have wanted to miss!

    1. Hi, Kathryn! Thanks for reporting in as I pay tribute to Haven, a great series recommended by my dear friend Cathy Kennedy. For the benefit of readers who are not yet watching the show, Haven is an American-Canadian series set in Maine but filmed on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, Canada. Haven is a coastal village that harbors secrets. It is inhabited by quirky characters who must deal with a never-ending series of bizarre events. Haven is loosely based on Stephen King’s mystery novel The Colorado Kid and boasts a fine cast of American and Canadian actors. I had never seen any of these actors before and now the characters they portray are familiar as members of the family. You are right, Kathryn. The three principal characters have chemistry galore and you find yourself really caring about them.

Thanks again for helping me salute Haven, Kathryn, and thanks again to Cathy K for urging me to give the series a try!

  2. Tom,

Thanks for the mention, dear friend! I'm delighted you enjoyed the show ever bit as much as we did. I'm hoping at some point they'll do reunion special or reboot the series. At least they left it in a good place for either to happen. I like how they had "Audrey" have five different personalities. Did you forget Mara or did you choose to leave her out for a reason? Anyhow, Duke is my favorite main character but I loved Dave and Vince! They added a lot of color and fun to the show. :)

    1. Hi, Cathy!

Thanks for coming and welcome to my tribute to Haven, a TV show Mrs. Shady and I started watching based upon your high recommendation.

There is a very good reason why I didn't mention Mara. It is because we are still working our way through the series and didn't get to that part of the story yet. :) This being October, the Halloween month, I wanted to pay tribute to this eerie TV series right now even before we have finished watching all of the episodes.

Yessum, I agree that Dave and Vince are fun characters that add a lot to Haven.

I would like nothing better than a reboot of Haven or, at the very least, a special reunion episode.

Thank you again for coming by, dear friend Cathy, and have a great week!

    1. Hi, Alex!

Like Cathy K, I highly recommend the Syfy/Netflix series Haven. In my opinion it is well worth the time investment. I predict you will get into the story line and care about the characters. Emily Rose is amazing.

Thanks for stopping in, good buddy!

    1. Greetings to you, my friend Blogoratti! Thank you very much for taking a peek at the post as I salute Haven, another of my favorite TV series (Mrs. Shady's, too).

I am happy to know you caught a few seasons of the Haven a while back. Mrs. S and I are working our way through season 4, but it is slow going now that the new fall season has started on the major networks.

Thanks again for your visit and comment, my good friend!

    1. Hi, Kelly!

Thanks for coming by, dear friend!

Yessum, Haven is "loosely" based on the 2005 Stephen King mystery novel The Colorado Kid. If you like King's brand of horror, it is a safe bet that you'll like Haven.

Thanks again for joining me today, dear friend Kelly!

  6. Happy October to you Shady! I see you've featured a spooky, quirky show that's set in New England. I've always wanted to go to Maine..it's on the bucket list..so I guess I should start with this series. I've never seen it and will have to give it a go because I'm all about the spooky and quirky this month! Why are all weird shows set in New England? Well, I guess not all are set there but it seems like the spookiest ones are! Ashland is having a ghost walk through some of the big old homes in the historic district. Maybe we'll be a good vibe for a TV show? We're really spooky and quirky around here! Hope you have a great week! Send us some rain if you have time!

    1. Hi, YaYa!

Thank you very much for swinging by on day one of the post, dear friend. I am happy to see you!

Yessum, it does seem like an awful lot of spooky stories are set in New England. I'll tell you this. The aerial views of the brightly colored houses and cottages in the fictional town of Haven, Maine, are spectacular and make you want to visit and vacation in the area. The series was actually filmed in Nova Scotia at locations that include Tilleys Cove, Mahone Bay, Hubbards, Halifax, Lunenburg, Northwest Cove and Chester.

I know that you love Halloween season and always have fun and interesting posts running during the month of October. I'm sorry your scary kitty is no longer around to show us his fangs. I hope you show and tell us about the ghost walk through the haunted houses in Ashland's historic district.

Thanks again for joining the fun, dear friend YaYa, and have a wonderful week!

    1. Hi, cat!

Thank you very much for stopping in. I appreciate your visit, dear friend!

Yessum, this was another sad and very dark day in U.S. history. I am still reeling at the thought of what happened in Vegas and asking why.

There are conflicting reports about Tom Petty but the prognosis looks grim.

If you ever get the chance to watch Haven I hope you will give it a try. The townspeople are plagued or cursed by "the troubles" - phenomena that are manifested in different ways every episode. The cast is super and Mrs. S and I highly recommend the series.

Thanks again for your visit and comment, dear friend cat!

Yessum, we lost another great one, rock legend Tom Petty. Thank you for sharing your thoughts about Tom and other musicians you admire.

  8. Wow, that sure seems like it is a compelling and interesting series! I've never heard of it. Is it Canadian by any chance? I say that because I recognized one of my favorite Canadian actors (Nicholas Campbell) in the first trailer. I loved him in DaVinci's Inquest.
It it a Netflix series? If not, on what network does it air?

Thanks for the introduction. I have such a hard time keeping up with all my favorite shows but I'm sure i could make room for one more!

    1. Hi, Michele!

Thank you for being here this week, dear friend. I've been missing you and I am grateful for your support.

Haven is both a Canadian and an American series. It is set in a small coastal town in Maine but filmed up the coast in Nova Scotia. Half the main actors are Canadian and half are American.

Haven lasted five seasons on the Syfy Channel and the entire series is now available on Netflix. If you like quirky characters and eerie Stephen King style horror, then I believe you will enjoy getting to know the "troubled" folks in Haven.

Thanks again for joining me, dear friend Michele, and enjoy the rest of your week. R.I.P. Tom Petty.

  9. Well, our week started off with more tragedy, didn't it! I am so shocked over the events in Las Vegas, and sorry for those that we lost-what a terrible and unsettling tragedy!

And, I am so saddened by our loss of Tom Petty! I never got to see him in concert, but I've seen numerous videos of him, and just watched a documentary of George Harrison, that featured Tom in various parts. I did see him perform at a Superbowl one year-he's the only reason I watched that game, lol! Tom will truly be missed!

So, hmmm...I've not heard of this Haven series, but I do have Netflix, and I do adore Stephen King. Sometimes, I would have to put a book of his down, if it was getting late at nite, lol! Then maybe read more of it before dusk the next day! I am currently reading one of his books, and need to get back to it. Your trailers to Haven make the show look pretty interesting, and, I will certainly check into this series. Consider your petition signed!

I am sorry to be a day late, and probably a dollar short also. I didn't even get to blogger yesterday. My schedule has gone a bit awry, and off track for the past two weeks. I hope to get my mojo back soon! Good to see you, take care dear friend, Shady! Have a great week! ♫

    1. Hi, Suzanne!

Thank you very much for coming over during this difficult week. I am heartsick over this latest incident that has once again plunged our nation into darkness and despair and reignited controversy and bitter debate. I've about had it!

Lucky you for having the opportunity to see Tom Petty perform at the Super Bowl. It is always sad to see one of the greats pass away long before they reach the average life span. Tom died less than three weeks before his 67th birthday. That's way too young!

Yessum, if you like Stephen King, I think you'll enjoy Haven. The characters are down to earth and likable. The plot twists keep you guessing and the special effects, while not elaborate, are convincing and fun to watch.

I hope we all get our mojos back soon. Thank you again for reporting in, dear friend Suzanne, and try to enjoy the rest of your week!

    1. Hi, Sherry!

Thank you very much for taking a peek at my post promoting the science fiction series Haven. I decided to use "stylized text" for this post, switching the upper case and lower case, because the inhabitants of the fictional town of Haven are plagued by what they refer to as "the troubles" - unexplained phenomena that scramble things around in a similar fashion. You will understand what I mean if and when you watch the show.

Thanks again for coming, dear friend sHERRY. I hope you will give hAVEN a try! :)

    1. Thanks, Gayle!

I hope you pick up where you left off and finish the series. It's well worth the investment of time. The problem is, with the new fall shows underway on the major networks, Mrs. Shady and I are bogged down with too much to watch and won't be able to resume with Haven until the networks take their Christmas holiday break.

Thank you very much for your visit and comment, dear friend Gayle!

  12. I have not seen this series at all. It is shown on the sci-fi channel but I still have not seen it. I want to see shows but my hubby is not one for those and I already tape so many that my ass would be the size of Cleveland if I watched all the shows I wanted to see. Now having said that, you have peaked my interest and I will see if I can start watching it from the beginning. Try is the operative word. From what I read, the song you chose seems quite fitting.

    1. Hi, Birgit!

How are you doing, dear friend? Thanks so much for popping in for a preview of Haven, a family friendly sci-fi series that Mrs. Shady and I highly recommend. I say family friendly because, unlike so many other shows, Haven keeps it clean. The characters are likable and the story line enthralling. Watch the first few episodes and I have no doubt that you will be hooked. Half the cast is Canadian and the series is filmed at various locations in Nova Scotia, so there's that...

Thank you again for joining the fun, dear friend BB. Take care and enjoy the rest of your week!

  13. Haven is one of my favorite shows! I am a big fan of Stephen King, so that could be partly the reason. :) I love the suspense and the actors that portray the characters.

Retro TV changed their lineup and now Haven is on later. :( Their Saturday time remained the same. How do you watch Haven? Streaming?

Have a great day, dear friend!

    1. Hi, Jessica Marie!

Thanks a lot for coming by to see my promotional piece on Haven, a SyFy Channel TV series that Mrs. Shady and I are watching on Netflix. (We have temporarily put the series on hold because of the glut of regular network shows that are back on the air with new episodes.)

I agree that there is excellent chemistry among the three main characters. They are a delight to watch. Haven is simply a wonderful little gem of a show that few people seem to know about. I'm happy to know that you watch the series and enjoy it.

Thanks again for dropping by, dear friend JM, and enjoy the rest of your week!

    2. I wonder if this series would be on Hulu. I'm about to cancel my subscription so I can pay off some debts. Maybe once all are paid off, I might look into Netflix. Would you recommend it?

    3. Hi, Jessica Marie!

I don't think I have seen Haven listed on Hulu. Mrs. Shady and I are catching the series on Netflix. If and when you subscribe to that service, don't forget to add Haven to your watch list. I think you'll enjoy it.

Have a wonderful week, dear friend JM!

    1. hI, DIEDRE!

See what I did there? In keeping with the eerie goings on in Haven, this post features stylized text with upper and lower cases reversed. I did the same thing with your name! :)

Haven is all about "the troubles"- strange phenomena with which the townspeople have been cursed for generations. Set in Maine, the series is based on a Stephen King book and is presented in his style with quirky characters, creepy events and horror that is not too gory and intense for younger viewers. I hope you will give it a try.

Thank you again for your kind visit and comment, dear friend diedre. Please take good care of yourself and come see me again soon!
