It's a Family Guy Affair! Sarah's Beside Herself as Brian and Stewie Name the Soul Survivor of Version Sacrifice!

 Hiya, folks!

 I'm Brian Griffin.

And this cute little shaver is my
pet human, Stewie (a little dog humor
there). You might remember our previous
hosting stint five years ago. Click
here to hop in Stewie's time machine
 and revisit that post.

 What's that smell?

 This might sound indelicate, Brian,
but I need to ask. Did you roll in
something? Were you drinking out of
 my Lil' Loo Potty again?

What's the matter, Stewie? You're not
 your usual cheery self today.

 I'm depressed, Brian. Another year
has gone by and I'm still not any older.
 I've been a freakin' one-year-old
 since 1999!

 Yeah right, we should all
 have your problem.

No sympathy here, Stewie, so put a binky
in it and let's get down to business.
It's time for us to announce the winner
 of Shady's latest Version Sacrifice,
titled How Sarah Got Her Groove Back.

As you recall it was a one woman race.
 The incumbent, English songbird Sarah
 Collins, ran unopposed, performing
 covers of two soulful recordings
 originally made by U.S. artists.
Sarah covered "I Can't Stand the Rain"
by Ann Peebles and "Too Busy Thinking
About My Baby" by Marvin Gaye.

I really like the fact that she's a
Brit babe, I really do. Brit babes rule.
Brit babes are hot. Just sayin'...

Readers were asked to vote for the
Sarah Collins cover they enjoyed more.
As you know, the rules state that
a winner cannot be declared until
Shady weighs in.  Shady left the
following message for me to read:

In 2015 I discovered many exciting new artists including YouTube sensation Sarah Collins, the English mother who records herself at home singing brilliant covers of U.S. originals, most of them in the categories of R&B, Northern Soul, Motown and Memphis Soul. The Marvin Gaye single "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby" was a major memory maker from my youth and Sarah did an excellent job of covering it. However, I am even more fond of Ann Peebles' Memphis soul and her signature song "I Can't Stand the Rain" which cracked the top 40.  Sarah Collins absolutely nailed her performance of "Rain," delivering a spot on imitation of Ann Peebles's earthy singing style. I can't stand having to choose between these two terrific performances but, when all was sung and done, I gave my vote to Sarah's cover of "I Can't Stand the Rain." Brian?... Stewie?...

Thank you Shady. Your vote has been
added to the count and we can now name
the winner. I haven't been this excited
since the time listened to Andy Kaufman
read every word of The Great Gatsby

Chapter one. In my younger and more vulnerable years
my father gave me some advice that I've been
turning over in my mind ever since.

 And the survivor of the
 Version Sacrifice is...

(Brian and Stewie shout in unison)

 "I  CAN'T  STAND  THE  RAIN!"

 "I Can't Stand the Rain" - 12
  SARAH COLLINS

"Too Busy Thinking About My Baby" - 8
  SARAH COLLINS

 "The Homecoming Queen's Got A Gun" - 1
  Julie Brown (write-in vote)

 Thanks for being here, folks.
 We'll be seeing you...

 unless you see us first...

 on Family Guy. So long!

 Next time bring candy, cheapskate!

I'm happy to see Brian and Stewie Griffin back on your blog--and happy that the Rain song survived your sacrifice. The voter turnout was good and the final score was close.

This was a fun post and a great v.s.--Shady!

    1. Hi, Kathryn!

Thanks for checking the final score of the Version Sacrifice, brought to you by Brian and Stewie Griffin (and by Hai Karate after shave and cologne. "Hai Karate... be careful how you use it.")

Yessum, this time around your horse won the race by a length and there was a good voter turnout. At the eleventh hour, Julie Brown threw her hat in the ring, but it did not affect the outcome of the contest.

Thank you again for exercising your right to vote, Kathryn. I hope to see you next time!

  2. That could've been ugly, but Brian and Stewie did a good job! And a good turnout of voters.

    1. Hi, Alex!

Word has it that Brian and Stewie have been tapped to host the Oscars next year. :) (Stranger things have happened.)

Thanks for voting in my Sacrifice, good buddy, and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  4. Love the Stewie and Brian banter! You picked a great pic to go with his digging "Brit babes"!

I'm so glad to see that I Can't Stand the Rain won. That was my choice. She did a tremendous job with the song. She has a beautiful voice. Thanks for introducing me to her talent!

    Happy Sunday!

Thank you for dropping in the view the final score, dear friend!

I'm glad you got a chuckle out of Stewie's antics and happy that your ears matched mine in this round of the Version Sacrifice. Stay tuned for future volumes of How Sarah Got Her Groove Back.

Happy Sunday to you as well, dear friend Michele, and have a wonderful week ahead!

  5. Hey Shady,

I'm so sorry I missed out on your Version Sacrifice vote this weekend! I had every intention of joining in but before I knew it, it was 9:00! I've been told that won't get any better as the baby gets older, haha!

Hope you had a good weekend!

    1. Hi, Ashton!

Thanks for visiting today, dear friend! Yessum, it's a shame you missed the chance to vote in my latest V.S., but I know you have your hands full with the rigors of your producing job, plus a certain adorable little lady to raise. As I told you, my grandson was born last year, and lately he's been running his mother ragged keeping an eye on him as he explores his world.

Thank you again for your visit and comment, dear friend Ashton. Please come back to see me whenever possible. You and I have been friends since Sept. 2010, and that's a long, long time in blogging!

  6. Hi Shady!
Your delightful post had me giggling and I'm not even familiar with those characters! Being the same age for 25 years really would be awful, wouldn't it? Perhaps they've simply not yet run out of material for the little guy.

I'm just glad Sarah won! (grin) She's awesome :-) and she sure brought in the votes ;-)

    1. Hi, dear Diedre!

Thank you very much for stopping by to view the final score, dear friend!

Yessum, it was nip and tuck there for a while, and an eleventh hour challenge by Julie Brown also muddied the water :), but Sarah Collins prevailed!!!

As the poster boy for arrested development, I can testify that it's fun approaching life from the POV of a teenager. :)

Thank you again for your ongoing friendship and support, dear friend Diedre. Enjoy the rest of your week!

  7. Tom, How fun to use Brian and Stewie with today's intro. I never was one to watch this popular animation. My kids on the other hand LOVED it. Yay me! I believe I picked "I Can't Stand the Rain". Thanks for sharing the outcome with us!

    1. Hi, Cathy!

Thanks for coming over, dear friend! Mrs. Shady and I think Family Guy is the most outrageously funny program on television. I urge you to watch it sometime.

Yessum, you were on the winning team this time around. "Rain" weathered the storm and came out on top by a 4 vote margin. I'm pleased that your ears matched mine in this contest.

Thanks again and enjoy your week, dear friend Cathy!

Thank you for popping in, dear friend! I double checked and it appears that you missed this particular Version Sacrifice ("VerSac" in nerd vernacular :) Yessum, I know you had your hands full taking care of thehamish's ailments. As a dog lover and former dog owner, I certainly understand. I am very happy to see you today and hope you enjoyed this two-parter featuring Sarah Collins and the gang from Family Guy.

Thanks again, dear friend Gayle, and have a wonderful week!

  9. I was just thinking the other day how cartoon characters rarely age. Some have been kids since I was a kid and now I'm old and they're still kids. Take Dennis the Menace or the Peanuts gang. Of course I guess those Peanuts strips are reruns, but still.

Anyway looks like I missed that Version Sacrifice for some reason. I would have voted for the winning version though since I always pick the winners or if I don't I pick the one that really should have been the winner.

Thanks for joining the Version Sacrifice after party, good buddy!

I'm sorry you were absent during the voting period, but your vote for "Rain" would not have affected the outcome, only widened the margin of victory. I like the way you framed it when you described how you always pick the winner. :) That's how I think of it.

Thanks again for coming over, good buddy. I hope to see you next time. Enjoy your week!

    1. Hi, dear Belle!

Thank you for returning to view the final score - a 4 vote victory for "I Can't Stand the Rain." I agree with you and Mrs. Shady. Even though "Rain" is a sad song, it is a better song than "Too Busy" because it has more to say.

I'm thrilled that you are getting so much enjoyment out of Sarah's singing. I was very excited when Sarah posted this announcement about the Version Sacrifice on her Facebook page:

Thank you for coming by to see how your vote figured in the outcome. I'm happy your song choice won the VerSac and also happy that your ears matched mine. (99% of the time they do.)

Yessum, I was thrilled to see Sarah's Facebook post. It yielded 500 pageviews on the V.S. post which is an astronomical number for SDMM, "the little blog that could... (but maybe shouldn't have)" :)

I hope you are in fine spirits and tip top shape today, dear Debbie. Thanks again for coming by. I hope to see you next time. Have a great week!

    1. Hi, dear Toni!

Thank you very much for attending the VerSac awards banquet hosted by Brian and Stewie. This was a peculiar contest. In the early going "Rain" jumped out to a big lead but "Busy" came on strong a few days into the voting period. Two absentee ballots (Belle's and Arlee's) could not be not counted, but their votes for "Rain" would have extended the song's winning margin to 6.

Yessum, I am excited about the award that my dear friend Michele gave me. I have an acceptance post coming up soon.

Thank you again for your visit and sweet comment, dear friend Toni!

  14. It wasn't a huge win, but I'm glad Can't Stand the Rain won. Your announcers were very charming, today. I'm glad I don't have smeller vision, because if Stewie smells anything like my dog, Schultz, after being outside rolling around in something, it would probably make me regurgitate my lunch.

    Enjoy your week!

    1. Hi, dear Sherry!

How are you, my friend? Thanks for coming to the award celebration as "Rain" begins her reign as VerSac champion. (If, for any reason, "Rain" cannot serve her full term and fulfill the duties and obligations thereof, the runner-up, "Too Busy," will be crowned champion.)

On Family Guy, Stewie is the one year old boy and Brian is the dog. I imagine both of them smell from time to time. :)

Thank you again for brightening my day with your visit and comment, dear friend Sherry!

I would love to see pictures of your dog Ferris. If you are ever light on things to talk about on your blog, dogs are always a hit with me and many other readers.

Yessum, a friend in York told me it was 70 degrees there as well. That's the same temp we had here in Florida during the morning hours. Your delightful warmth is our refreshing coolness and, for us, it won't last. The mercury is supposed to climb to 90 in Central FL this week!

Thank you again for being here for me today, dear friend YaYa. I hope your week is going splendidly and I'll talk to you again soon!

The animated series came long when I was in my 40s and before I started watching cartoons with my grandchildren and before I got hooked on Family Guy.
