    2. I boycotted your blog for eight days? Did you post? Sometimes I look for you and can't find you.

    3. Yessum, the last time you commented on SDMM was Dec. 17. If you click back to the post before this one you will see that it was published Dec. 24. When you didn't comment on it during its 8 day run I feared the worst - that you had unfriended me. ): It's good to have you back, Janie!

    1. Hi, dear YaYa! Thank you so much for coming. You are mistaken, my dear friend. I am not offering a money back guarantee. I am offering a DOUBLE your money back guarantee! :)

I hope and pray that your knees are mending quickly and that you'll soon be 100% mobile. Your ongoing faithful friendship means the world to me, dear YaYa. God bless you and your family (including Eddy) in the coming year!

  8. "Double your money back?" Now that is some kinda deal, ha ha.

It goes hand in hand with the raise I am giving you for 2015. Cost of living my eye - I'm giving you ten times your current pay. Now, now, don't thank me...I'm rolling in it...er, I've rolled in something, I'm not sure what...

My Flipside guarantee to you is that no one will ever want to write anything even close to the flotsam I spread on my blog...so, we'll call that original, too. If you don't mind the juvenile doodles at the top, we're golden!

Happy new year, once again, dear friend.

I agree, dear friend. I think you either rolled in or STEPPED in something... most likely something that Coco left behind! :)

I look forward to many more witty exchanges with you in the coming year and to honing this wonderful friendship of ours. Thank you again, dear Cheryl, for your visit and comment. Here's wishing us all a great 2015!

    1. Hello, good morning, good evening and happy new year, dear Allie-Millie! I'm pleased to see you, my friend. At the end of 2010, I said "goodbye" to blogging, believing at the time that I had told every story I could think of and presented all of the music worth hearing. How wrong I was! Over the four years that followed I introduced hundreds more great recordings and was able to present many more interesting Dell related stories provided by Margaret Schneider and her daughter Kathleen, Dell Rats Ron and Jerre and others, I am pleased to report that I have enough fresh content in the can to last through 2015 and beyond.

Thank you for being part of my Shady Dell family, dear friend Allie-Millie, and happy new year to you!

    2. I can't believe you gave up blogging at the end of 2010. You will never run out of stories and recordings.

    3. It's amazing, Janie. The most exciting stories and most important information about the Shady Dell and its inhabitants came to me after 2010. It was after 2010 that I met Kathleen Mae Schnieder and her mother, Margaret. Margaret Brown's parents built the Dell in 1912 when Margaret was a baby and they moved in the following year to become the Dell's First Family. Margaret, now approaching her 103rd birthday, is nicknamed "The Oldest Living Dell Rat." In 2012 Margaret, with the help of daughter Kathleen, my guest blogger, began telling her stories on this blog. The following link takes you to their most recent post and provides links to all of their previous stories:

      http://shadydell.blogspot.com/2013/11/in-dell-ible-memories-chapter-8-curious.html

After 2010 I also met Phil Spangler, whose family was next to occupy the Dell in the late 1920 and 30s, and since 2010 I have met other original Dell rats who have provided interesting anecdotes and priceless pictures of the Dell and teenagers who went there.

The Dell's renovation and sale also came after 2010 as did the demolition of the historic dance hall and other key structures on the property.

So you see, most of the important events and revelations have come after I decided to go into reruns at the end of 2010. That's why every year it makes me proud to be able to say I am providing 90% fresh content. I have calculated that I now have enough fresh material to last until 2020.

Thank you again for your interest, your friendship and your support, dear Janie.

  12. The Shady Dell....what a wonderful story you have written. You are fortunate to have experienced such a wondrous place of 'respect' and to have known its owners. We need more places and people like this today don't you think. Respect for themselves and respect for others. Simple really....but increasingly difficult to find. Let's discourage all those violent 'facebook' parties....and encourage more Shady Dells!!!!!! Anyway, I live in hope.

You're a star by the way!

    Ciao

    1. Thanks again for writing what you did here, dear Robyn. I do consider myself fortunate to have known John and Helen Ettline and to have experienced the magic that was the Shady Dell in its golden years of the 1960s. Indeed the Ettlines were a vanishing breed even then. They were caring folks who took it upon themselves to offer a place where teenagers could congregate, let off steam and have fun without being corrected every five seconds by authority figures. The Ettlines commanded respect and got it. They offered counseling and guidance when asked. Kids could relate to them better than they could to their own parents and teachers.

This blog is a tribute to the Ettlines and to the Dell. It is also a weekly record hop where I present what I think are the greatest recordings of my lifetime, a variety of music to suit almost every taste. As you have already discovered SDMM is also a place where I feel free to express my sense of humor.

I believe in spreading good vibrations and I promise you this, Robyn. You will always receive the warmest welcome here. I am very grateful to add you to my circle of friends. If you consider me a star then all I can say to that is "it takes one to know one." Thank you again, dear Robyn, and I hope to see you again soon.

      Happy new year!
