  5. Thisisme - It's good to see you up and around early new year's morning, dear friend. Did you take Alfred out for his first walk of the year? Your wish is for 2012 to be kind and I second that emotion. 2011 was a tough one for many of the people I care about. Thank you for your greetings, dear Thisisme, and happy new year to you and your wonderful family!

Emma - Hello, dear friend! You called me Tom and that gives me something to smile about here on day one. I hope that 2012 will be a breakthrough, banner year for you and Donnacha. Bless you and happy new year, dear friend!

  10. What cute little rat images you found, Tom! I think my favorite one is the ratty-earred, buck-toothed purple one!

Does Lumpy Rutherford have what it takes to be president? It's possible, we hear the stories all the time of those successful people who flunked out of school. It's not all about grades. Enjoyed seeing the video, I am a fan of "the Beaver".

Getting back to it being the year of the rat, I would like to list some traits I read of the Chinese Zodiac rat: Wit, imagination, curiosity, intelligence, intuitive, charming, quick-witted ... hey, I have just described you, the Dell Rat Tom!

    Off the subject a little, last night I watched "Taxi Driver" and am assuming your line, "You talkin' to me?", above the comment window was taken from this movie. Am I right? ;~}

Here's hoping the year 2012 will be your best one ever!

  11. Cindy - You wrote: << What cute little rat images you found, Tom! I think my favorite one is the ratty-earred, buck-toothed purple one! >>

Hey!!! That's me on a GOOD day! (LOL)

Beauty and brains are a lethal combination, dear friend. Yessum. I borrowed "You talkin' to me?" from Taxi Driver, a favorite movie of mine. You also did your homework again and came up with facts that I didn't know about the Chinese Zodiac rat.

Ed McMahon: EVERYTHING I would ever want or need to know about rats is right there... RIGHT THERE in Cindy's comment.

Johnny: You are WRONG, cheese breath!

Anyway...I am very flattered by your sweet and intelligent comments, dear Cindy. I'm hereby endorsing Lumpy for president and if you'd like to jump on the bandwagon I have a custom fitted Lumpyette costume ready for you to try on!

Happy new year, my dear and delightful friend!

  12. The movie 'Taxi Driver' was a good one. And a good choice for your comment section! Ah, yes, Lumpy-always getting the short end of the stick! Ha! I had a crush on Eddie Haskell...guess the 'bad boy' image was more exciting! I've enjoyed your blog immensely, even tho picking it up late in the year! Happy blogging in 2012 Shady!

  13. Susan - Eddie Haskell was ahead of his time and certainly a breakout character just like Fonzie on Happy Days (Henry Winkler), Mork on Mork and Mindy (Robin Williams), and Latka Gravas (Andy Kaufman) on Taxi. Which brings the conversation around to the movie Taxi Driver which featured one of my favorite actresses, Jodie Foster. By the way if you Texas gals (you and Cindy) both enjoyed the Leave it to Beaver TV series, then stick around. I have a two-part post coming up soon that ties in with the program. Thank you very much for your kind comments, dear Susan, and happy blogging to you as well! Blogger will never keep us apart! :)

  14. Wow! What a name for a dog! I've been recommended Midnight in Paris by a few people but now that it has your approval I will add it to my list of films to watch in the near future!

  15. Emma - Hello again! I'm honored that you would take my word for it but I doubt that you'd be disappointed by the film. It has elements that I know you would appreciate such as beautiful period costumes and music, romantic settings around Paris and intelligent dialogue. Please give me your own review of the movie if you choose to see it. You are such a special friend, Emma. Thanks again for coming by and good night to you in Dublin!

  16. Happy 2012 to you my friend. There were some good aspects to 2011 such as making many new blog friends such as yourself. That can't be bought anywhere! It's a gift. Thanks for joining me on my blog and providing some very entertaining moments on yours!

  17. Bouncin' Barb - You made my day and possibly my year with these generous comments, dear friend. Thank you very much! It is indeed a pleasure getting to know you, realizing how much we have in common (loving Alice Cooper and all), and reminiscing about vacations spent at Myrtle Beach. I will be here to entertain you and to offer you hugs of encouragement throughout the coming year. Thank you very much for your visit, BB, and I wish you all the best in 2012!

  18. Can you keep us entertained? Yes, indeedy-do. I'm looking forward to a new year of songs and interesting background to the oldies!

Can Lumpy become President? Another yes! Haven't we had a few like him already?

Thank you also for your support and friendship through the last year. I feel blessed to know you.

  20. Belle - This grass roots Lumpy for President campaign is gaining momentum and taking on a life of its own. There's a damn good chance he'll be sitting in the oval office! I'm so glad to be able to make you smile and forget your troubles for a while. We all have our share and I'd rather laugh than cry. I am blessed to know you and to have your friendship and loyal support, dear Belle. Thank you for commenting and here's hoping for a safe and happy 2012 for you and your family!

Lauren - We all have our ups and downs and our friends can help us through the tough times. Blog friends are real friends as you and I have demonstrated. You are an outstanding young woman with so much to offer the world. I hope that 2012 will be an exciting and rewarding year for someone like you. Thank you for accepting my friendship and giving yours in return, dear Lauren!

  21. I love the sense of humor that you have going on here ha ha.
    Oh and I can't wait for future posts from you in this new year. It has certainly been an honor getting to know you sir and getting to learn all the things that you know. I really do appreciate all the aspiring comments that you leave on my blog. You have been so kind to me, and I would like to thank you for everything. :}

  22. Hi, Presley! It's so very kind of you to drop by. I can't begin to tell you how much I admire your interest in genuine stars like Doris Day and the music, movies, culture and values that existed during the first half of the 20th century. As I'm sure you know, many people your age show little or no interest in anything other than the present. You and a growing number of young people feel a strong connection to the past. Somehow it feels like home to you. You and others like you are discovering, celebrating, helping to preserve and re-popularizing the best of that era. You are setting an example. You are showing the world that vintage is cool and what's old is new again. I am delighted that our paths have crossed and that you and I have this opportunity to learn from each other. It's going to be an amazing year. You'll see. Thank you very much for your visit and comment, Presley, and happy new year to you, my wise and wonderful new friend!

  23. Poor Lumpy! Why did teachers announce grades in front of the entire class? It's like a boss handing out paychecks and announcing how much you make to your coworkers. I'm thankful that my grades were private.
I loved watching the clip of Leave it To Beaver. I used to be able to see the reruns when I was younger. I'm going to remember to share this show with Elliot, who would really appreciate Beaver at this time of his life.
Thank you also for the recent follow! I'm so happy to have made a connection with such a thoughtful writer and friend.

  24. Jenny - It is my pleasure. Lead on into 2012 and I will surely follow. If you can get Elliot to watch grainy old black and white programs (something that many young people refuse to do) then I believe he would benefit from a series like Leave it to Beaver. It's one of the most entertaining and family friendly sitcoms ever produced, a model of how a strong two parent family resolves problems and conflicts. Every episode offers a laugh-laced lesson about the consequences of taking shortcuts, shirking responsibilities and breaking rules. Thank you for your visit and kind words, dear Jenny, and have an excellent day and year!

  25. I love the musical soundbites in that clip. So perfect. I know I've said this before but I am truly grateful for all your kind words. You always mange to make my day a littler brighter just by being you. I hope 2012 brings you all the happiness in the world!

  26. Happy new year, Shady! I hope it brings you a lot of musical inspirations! Hugs, Joanna

  27. Amber - Mission Accomplished! If my unconditional bloggy love, my dated references and my goofy jokes make your days brighter then I am overjoyed because that is exactly my intention. I'm sure you realize how much I enjoy playing off of your humor. I love your playful personality and it brings out the same in me. There's a time and a place for everything and when it's time to put all kidding aside you are well aware of how much I truly admire you. I cherish the friendship that you and I have nurtured over the last year. I wish you and your delightful little family a safe, happy and prosperous year ahead, dear Amber!

  28. Hugs to you, Joanna! You have been publishing your blog more often lately and I couldn't be happier because you are a world class model who deserves recognition. You are also a great and loyal friend and an all around wonderful person. It's hard to believe that it will soon be a year since you and I collaborated on a list of your parents' favorite oldies. It has been a tremendous pleasure to know you and connect with you during the past year. Let's keep it going in 2012 and beyond! Good night to you in Oxford, dear friend Joanna!

  29. Happy New Year, Tom! Thanks for all the reminiscences of the past years, the updates, and the friendships you've established throughout the world. Your and their exchanges are as interesting as the blog itself. It's a pleasure that SDM&M isn't just about the Dell and the music, but that they have been a vehicle for expanding communication which might not otherwise have occurred. Your comments throughout the blog and your appreciation, personalization and interaction with everyone who writes you makes this truly an exceptional site. The world can use a lot more caring, and this is a boon. I'm looking forward to another year where the present and the past combine, and I thank you for allowing me my occasional two cents. I'm sending you a bear hug in this e-mail.
Did you ever own a pair of British Walkers? I don't recall a mention of them, and most every guy I knew when we were in junior high had to have them. They had to be saddle soaped to keep them soft and clean. They were the "must-haves" after the penny loafers and before the Jack Purcells.

    Cheers, buddy!
    Ron

  30. Ron - Wow, thank you very much for the vote of confidence, good buddy! Your comments mean a great deal to me and I really appreciate them. Please remember that all of these fine people are your friends, too. For months on end they have been enjoying your anecdotes and learning a great deal from you about music and history. I actually don't think I ever got around to buying a pair of Walkers but I owned penny loafers and several pairs of Jacks. Thank you again for all that you have done to make SDM&M the success it is today, Ron. Happy new year, good buddy!
